GIVE SHELTER
AND
SHADE TO LAHAINA FAMILIES

Your dollars will go directly to fabricating and installing shade solutions made from retired and deconstructed high-performance racing sails.

Sail to Shelter has evolved into what can best be described as “World Central Kitchen for shade”. They show up and feed, we show up with shade. We transform retired superyacht sails into shade and shelter, hiring locally for fabrication and installation.

We have been in constant motion since the fires ripped through Lahaina. As most of you know, Maui and wind sports are nearly synonymous. This tragedy felt personal and everyone from the sailing community has been so eager to help.

After two months of constant coordination among partnerships including North, Doyle, Co Architects, Ocean Voyages Institute and Dog House Canvas, we are prepared to deliver the very best superyacht material from around the world to Maui so it can be: transformed into gorgeous, vital and long lasting shade for years to come.

Design expertise comes from 40-year Lahaina resident and Maui Sails owner and master sailmaker, Barry Spanier. Not only has Barry lent his peerless understanding of sail material and how to maximize its functionality on Maui, but he has also contributed Juki sewing machines and talented sailmakers, trained by him, now victims of the fire.

We have connected with over a dozen organizations on the island and all of them need shade. Organizations include Hui Homes, Family Life Center, Ohana Hope, Regin Centers, and others.

Here’s how you can help.

First, please share this information. So many people want to know how to actually help. Your donations will provide direct income in the form of skilled jobs for fire victims AND life-sustaining shade.

Second, you can donate. Did you know that Lahaina means “relentless sun: in Hawaiian? As a former executive in Las Vegas, covered parking was part of our compensation package. I can tell you, shade is worth a lot!

We can produce a 25’x5′ strip of material for only $250.00.

Sails will be received deconstructed and reconstructed to meet design requirements to shade and expand the vitality of the many tiny home and temporary housing projects popping up around Maui.

Sail to Shelter and our partners are providing materials, designs, and equipment. Your cash donations will provide income for a fire victim and desperately needed shade that will last for years to come. We are going to do this for as long as they need shade. Corporate donations are welcome!

Thank you again. I am so grateful for your support!

We are working with local organizations on shade solutions to expand and enhance individual dwellings, but also envision gathering spaces to encourage community.

Designs are fabricated and installed using local resources and labor. Help a local family impacted by the fire financially and help a community rebuild with one donation.
